What is anime?

 What is anime?

A new type of film and program production methods emerged at the beginning of the twentieth century, after the emergence of computers and technological advancements, as well as rising actors' salaries and a lack of investment in the artistic field. This type was named "anime," and in this article we will discuss anime and its general aspects.

The origin of anime: The first commercial anime film was produced in 1917, with a duration of two minutes. Japan is considered the founding country and leader in international anime production. Using known techniques from America, Germany, France, and Russia after this film's release, Japan was able to develop anime films that quickly gained global popularity, attracting millions of fans worldwide to support the industry. Anime has been translated into French and English; even global companies like Walt Disney turned to producing their own anime films due to low production costs and not needing actors. The anime industry flourished, achieving substantial profits. Even today there continues to be increasing interest in creating anime productions.

Origin of the word "anime": The word "anime" is derived from "animation." Japanese people used the term "anime" for all types of animation including foreign ones; initially it was called "manga eiga," meaning manga film - where manga refers to illustrated stories on which animes are based.

Kodomo anime ratings: The word Kodomo in Japanese means child, and this type of anime targets children in particular. The anime is often entertaining and educational at the same time, and because it is directed to children, it is subject to strict censorship. The Doraemon anime is more famous than the Kodomo anime translated into English.

Shounen: It is a Japanese word for short years. In other words, it targets teenage males. This type of manga is known for its fast-paced events, and for containing motivational values such as friendship, will, and the victory of good over evil after a long struggle. The most famous shonen works translated into English are: Naruto, One Piece, and Death Note.

Shoujo: It is a Japanese word that means girl, and from here it becomes clear to us that the target group in this work is teenage girls. Shoujo works are often characterized by the fact that the main hero is a girl, and that there is a noticeable change in the characters and their way of thinking. One of the most famous shoujo works translated is Lady Oscar.

Seinen: The seinen works target university youth and above. They are more complex than the previous types. They are also more realistic and focus on the existence of evil and malice in the world. Among the most famous seinen works is the monster.
